NUMEN

SCIENCE & RESEARCH

Biology must add value.

NUMEN combines working models with published biomarker research. We develop new therapy-specific applications against a clear standard: useful predictions, a meaningful comparison and independent evaluation.

OUR EVIDENCE STANDARD

A meaningful question. A meaningful test.

Our standard is practical: a treatment-response model should add useful information beyond the clinical baseline. Finding a pattern is the beginning. Establishing its value is the task.

  1. Define the prediction

Specify the therapy, population, outcome and prediction time. Make the question precise.

  2. Compare fairly

Test what the model adds to clinical information alone. Keep the comparison relevant to the intended use.

  3. Test independently

Evaluate on data not used to develop the model. Present uncertainty alongside the result.

The standard is usefulness, not complexity.

Individualised prognosis in dementia research

Authors include Ioannis Tarnanas and Panagiotis Vlamos.

This empirical study examined digital biomarker models for individual prognosis in people at risk of dementia, including evaluation in a longitudinal, multi-site setting.

The connection to NUMEN

It reflects experience within NUMEN’s scientific team in developing and evaluating individualised prognostic models.

Digital Neuro Fingerprints

Authors include Ioannis Tarnanas, Martin Wyss and Panagiotis Vlamos.

This perspective presents a framework for combining biomarker information in precision neurology and examines its potential for more individualised research and care.

The connection to NUMEN

It brings together members of NUMEN’s leadership and advisory team around a shared scientific direction.

These publications concern earlier dementia and precision-neurology research. Our psychedelic response programme is a separate application.

THE NEXT APPLICATION

From scientific experience to the next response question.

Our first study and initial response-score development focus on psychedelic therapies. We bring existing modelling capability and the team’s research experience to this new application.

Each therapy-specific application is evaluated for its intended use.

INTERPRETING THE OUTPUT

Confidence belongs beside the estimate.

The response profile is designed to explain what the model estimates, the evidence supporting it and the context in which it applies. Uncertainty is part of an informative answer.

SCIENTIFIC COLLABORATION

Turn a shared question into focused research.

We welcome researchers and development teams working on individual treatment response.
